BANDIPUR AND GUDALUR
The journey starts from Bangalore towards Bandipur forest via Mysore. Bandipur, Mudumalai, and Nagarhole are sanctuaries of the Nilgiri mountains. These places are some of the oldest biodiverse regions on earth. Driving through these forests in the evening will surely get you confronted with wild animals like deers, antelopes, elephants, and gaur. Visit these places in monsoons as the forest grasslands become dense green in color and much fresher. As we proceed towards Guadalupe the forest disappears and a small hill station arrives that marks the starting of the Malgudi stories. The needle viewpoint as shown below is an elevated point in Gudalur that offers a panoramic view of the Nilgiris. This location feels terrific in monsoons as clouds hover through the strolling path accompanied by drizzle over the fresh vegetation in the surroundings. The Needle viewpoint gives every tourist and ideal zeal for starting this pristine journey of the Nilgiris.
OOTY
Gudalur is a small hill station that offers excellent views of the valley but the main attraction lies on the way to Ooty from gudalur. The roads will blow your minds away, traversing through valleys and eucalyptus garden. The pykara lake will fall on the way providing us a mesmerizing place to enjoy nature. Boating facilities are also available which takes us deep through a foggy ambiance inside the lake. Ooty is a famous tourist destination which is always bustling with tourists. Ooty boasts of a famous multi-storeyed flower garden with an enormous number of figures carved out from different species of roses. But the main attraction lies in a two-hour drive to Avalanche lake. The road trip has one of the densest greenery in this country with tall eucalyptus trees and rich tea plantations. Even the locals here have carved out elevated lands into a farming ground so every hill here looks like a well-trimmed vegetation grounds. It provides stunning scenery which really enlightens a road trip as the road proceeds, meandering between the plantation hills. Avalanche lake is more like the shape of our country and one has to trek through deep forests to reach the bank.
OOTY TO VALPARAI
As we proceed towards the borders of Tamil Nadu and Kerala we come to a much lesser known Munnar of Tamil Nadu called Valparai. The whole town is covered with tea plantations and lake reservoirs that engulfs us into scenic countryside. The air is fresh and devoid of any pollution. On the way to Valparaiso at Pollachi, we come across Aliyar Dam where a pit stop is a must to enjoy the ultimate views of the Annamalai reserve forest. The highway from Pollachi to Valparaiso has the highest number of hairpin bends in this country that passes through the Annamalai reserve forests. It adds to an adventurous feat attained by tourists in this journey. The famous Nilgiri Tahr and Lion-tailed Monkey is a common sight on this highway. As we approach Valparaiso the valley turns into disciplined tea plantations in an artist’s mind.
VAZHACHAL FOREST
This road trip from Valparai to Athirapally waterfalls passes through the densest rain fores in India. It is a thrilling two hour drive through the densest forest in Kerala which the sightings of wild elephants uprooting trees are common. The lion-tailed monkey is also a unique species of the Nilgiris that flies along the branches in this part of the hills. The road is narrow but the canopy of trees providing minimum sunlight thrills our adrenaline to a maximum level. At the end of the road trip, we come across three waterfalls-Vazhachal waterfalls, Charpa waterfalls, and the most famous Athirapally waterfall. The stream that further moves down and forms this enormous waterfall forms a lake near the entry gate for the falls where a soothing bath is necessary to replenish our childhood enthusiasm. Monsoons are the best time to visit these waterfalls as in these periods they have the largest volume of water...
CONOOR
A famous hill station 20 km from Ooty, this town is both a mixture of Valparai and Ooty. It has numerous hotels for tourists like in Ooty. The roads in the town are surrounded by tea plantations and terrace farming like Valparaiso.A drive through this town to various viewpoints like the Dolphin’s nose and the Catherine falls is so enchanting as we pass along the tea factories and green mountains.
